Harley-Davidson is an Iconic Motorcycle Manufacturer based in the United States of America. This American cruiser motorcycle manufacturer made its India debut in the year 2009. But, sadly just a few days ago, the Milwaukee-based firm has announced to close its manufacturing facility in India and will also reduce the size of its sales office significantly. It has been in news for a long time that Harley is looking for an Indian two-wheeler brand for partnership. Now, it seems that the Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp Deal will be officially announced very soon.
So, first of all, let's have a quick look at the history of the Harley-Davidson in India. The company made its Indian debut in 2009 and launched 12 bikes at the 2010 Auto Expo. Then in December 2010, the company announced its local assembly plant that was situated at Bawal, Haryana. In 2019, Harley completed its ten years of operations in India. But sadly now, the cruiser maker has announced the closure of its manufacturing and sales operations in India. Harley will now only sell imported CBU bikes in India. Coming to the partnership point of view, so Harley was looking for an Indian brand to produce its iconic cruisers as part of its global restructuring plan - 'Rewire'.

As per initial reports, Hero MotoCorp and Mahindra's Classic Legends were in the race. But, according to the latest reports, Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp deal might be announced officially very soon as the two-wheeler firms are reportedly in advanced talks with regard to this matter. According to the sources, Harley-Davidson is in advanced talks with Hero MotoCorp for a distribution deal which will allow Harley to sell its Iconic Cruisers in India after it stops local manufacturing in the country. As per the sources, if this the deal is finalised, Hero MotoCorp will import Harley-Davidson bikes in India and will become its sole or say master distributor in the country.
What's further interesting is that Hero MotoCorp might become a contract manufacturer for at least one Harley-Davidson motorcycle in India. If both brands form the alliance, at least one Harley motorcycle having an engine capacity of 300-600cc will be manufacturer by Hero MotoCorp in India. But, it will happen at a later point of time. Though the two-wheeler makers are said to be in advanced talks, the financial details of this Iconic deal are not clear yet. Hero MotoCorp is the World's largest two-wheeler manufacturer and so having an alliance with Hero will give huge benefits to Harley too.
