Before we conclude is it veracious or not, let us give you a brief explanation about the statement of the Haryana Government. The Haryana Government (through Press Trust Of India) on Thursday announced that it has decided to put a complete ban on the purchase of new vehicles, including cars and jeeps for the current fiscal year. However, there will be no restriction on purchasing other utility vehicles like buses for public transport and vehicles used for emergency purposes like ambulance and fire brigades. A decision in this regard was taken in the Haryana Cabinet meeting which was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar.
The cabinet also decided that even in case of very urgent need of a new car or a jeep, outsourcing/hiring of the vehicles should be done instead of the new vehicle purchase. This was the news which was circulated all-over from TV channels to social media platforms and the scoop that new purchase of vehicles is banned is true but just partially. The other side of the story is that the ban is only on vehicles for the Haryana Government staffs and authorities and it has no connection with personal vehicles like cars/bikes or other private mobility solutions used by common people.

This decision has been taken as Haryana Government's revenue sources have dried up owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and nationwide lockdown. Not just one state, the situation is almost identical in all the states and union territories of the country. So yes, the original question that Haryana Government Bans New Car Sale is true, but does not apply to individuals at all. The corona pandemic has adversely affected not just human lives but all economic activities and the governments are trying to cut down on trivial expenses and use the fund in battling against the coronavirus.
