What is E20 Petrol? & Why Does It Even Matter?

The name says it all: E20 is a blend of 20% anhydrous ethanol and 80% petrol, introduced as part of India's push for clean energy. This E20 fuel results in less harmful tailpipe emissions. Ethanol is derived from plants like sugarcane and corn, and it comes with a major drawback of its corrosive nature.
Due to its corrosive nature, it can rot away soft metals, along with rubber and plastic parts, if used with a non-compliant engine. The government is putting efforts into increasing ethanol blending with petrol for a greener future. So, having an E20-compliant car ensures that it is ready for the future.

Honda has officially secured the E20 compliance for its entire model lineup in India. Honda currently sells three models in the Indian market, the Amaze, City, and the Elevate. The manufacturer has done this before the government's deadline of April 1, 2025, which requires all newly manufactured ICE vehicles to be E20 compliant.
However, there's good news for existing Honda owners; the car maker has confirmed that all of its four-wheelers manufactured after January 1, 2009, are compatible with E20 fuel. This means the owners of these vehicles can easily shift to E20 petrol without any concerns or hassle. With this, Honda Cars India becomes the first manufacturer in the country to make its whole range E20 compliant.
Speaking on the latest achievement, Mr. Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd. said,"At Honda Cars India, we are committed to driving sustainable mobility solutions and all our cars have been E20 material compatible since Jan 2009 enabling our customers to seamlessly adopt the greener E20 fuel without any modifications. The latest compliance certification for all our current models ahead of the pan India E20 fuel introduction aligns with the Government of Indias goal to implement greener fuels. As India moves towards a cleaner and more sustainable future, HCIL will continue to remain at the forefront.
