Honda has finally launched the Civic diesel in BS6 form and the prices for the same starts at Rs 20.75 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The top-spec ZX variant of BS6 Honda Civic diesel is priced at Rs 22.34 lakh. Honda is offering the Civic diesel in two variants only - VX and ZX.

This 1.6-litre oil burner makes as much as 120 PS of power at 4,000 rpm while its peak torque is rated at 300 Nm. The turbo diesel unit is mated to a 6-speed manual as before and no automatic is observed. Mind you, the new-age Honda City too is compromised in the diesel automatic section.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Rajesh Goel, Sr. Vice President and Director, Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd said, Honda is committed to bring its latest and advanced environment-friendly technologies to the Indian market.

With the introduction of BS-6 Diesel version of our iconic sedan Honda Civic, our entire sedan lineup will offer the choice of both Petrol and Diesel to cater to our esteemed customers. The Diesel Civic is available in Manual Transmission and will appeal to customers looking for sheer driving pleasure.

What's interesting is that even with the BS6 diesel, the ARAI fuel efficiency is rated at 23.9 km/l which is remarkable. However, the prices make the D-segment sedan an expensive affair to own. It's rival Hyundai Elantra starts at Rs 18.70 lakh and top-spec is priced at Rs 20.65 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.

The rear profile of the Civic diesel is identical except for the badging which goes as i-DTEC

But the Elantra here loses out on the maximum power which is just 113 bhp. Also, the fact that it gets the same 1.5L diesel mill like that found in Verna, Venue and the Creta Honda, on the other hand, provides a bigger diesel with more power and better performance. The Elantra bags an automatic transmission in the diesel which the Civic lacks.

Honda Civic continues with its flamboyant design and sharp creases. On the inside, it features a large 17.7 cm touchscreen infotainment unit with modern connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets dual-zone climate control, 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat, electronic parking brake and among others.

Safety features on the BS6 diesel Civic include six airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle stability assist, a multi-angle rearview camera, Hill-start assist and Lane watch camera. The latter made its debut in the 2020 Honda City also.
