Honda CL300 Scrambler Motorcycle Patented In India - Coming Soon?

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Honda Motorcycle has filed a patent for CL300 Scrambler in India
  • Gets a 286cc, single-cylinder engine
  • To share same platform as the Rebel 300 cruiser

Honda recently filed a new design patent application in India for the CL300 scrambler motorcycle. Along with its larger sibling, the CL500, this exact motorbike was displayed by the brand at the EICMA show last year. The motorcycle's introduction in the Indian market hasn't been announced by Honda, though. It's likely that they filed for a patent to protect their intellectual property rights. Honda has a history of submitting a lot of patent applications for the vehicles that weren't launched in India.

Honda CL300

The platform of the Rebel 300 cruiser motorbike will be used by the recently patented Honda CL300. It'll have bigger tyres than the Rebel 300. It will also feature the exact same 286cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine as the CB300R. The CL300's power output will be a little bit less, though. A 6-speed gearbox will be mated to the engine.

The Honda CL300's fuel tank is identical to that of the Rebel cruiser in terms of design. It has larger tyres, a high-mounted exhaust, and a single seat that is designed like a scrambler, all of which add to its genuine scrambler appearance. The motorcycle can easily travel on off-road trails because of the presence of these sizable tyres.

Honda CL300

In the present times, scramblers are gaining popularity in the Indian market, and the CL300 from Honda could offer a fresh option from the renowned Japanese two-wheeler brand. While it remains uncertain whether Honda will introduce the CL300 in the Indian market, if they do, it will be crucial to launch it with a competitive price point. Honda has previously managed to achieve this with the CB300R by localizing the production, and the brand should consider implementing a similar strategy for the CL300 in order to maintain an affordable price, provided they have plans to release the motorcycle in India.

Verdict

The Honda CL300 may or may not be introduced in India, but if it does, scrambler motorbike lovers will surely find it to be an alluring option. Honda's ability to keep prices low through domestic manufacture will be a crucial component in its success. It's possible that this patent application is only meant to protect the brand's intellectual property rights. The company hasn't made any formal remarks about the launch.
