The Indian two wheeler market has seen a great demand for scrambler bikes in the entry level segment. Therefore, most of the OEMs are planning to share their engines from the existing lineup and develop new scramblers. Honda two wheelers is no different and is reportedly working on the new Royal Enfield Rival, the Honda Scrambler 500 cc.
Honda two wheelers had recently revealed their plans of adding two new scrambler motor bikes to their existing portfolio. These would be available with two different engine options, with a 250 cc and 500 cc displacement, namely the Honda CL 250 and CL 500. These scramblers would be sharing their platform and powertrains with their cruiser based siblings, the Rebel 250 and the Rebel 500. Sharing platforms and powertrains would help Honda Two Wheelers to keep the ex-showroom prices from sky rocketing and making the product an affordable offering with less investment in research, development and production from the scratch.

The patent drawings of the Honda Scrambler 500 cc were recently leaked on a Japanese website. This patent constitutes a Scrambler based on the Rebel 500's platform, engine and chassis. On the basis of this patent, a full production form render has been created to imagine the real life model of the CL 500 Scrambler from Honda.
The patents show a resemblance with the front end of the rebel, while there are some significant differences with the rear section of the chassis. The design is inspired by the old school Honda C series bikes dating back to the 1960s and 1990s, exclusively the Dram CL72 Scrambler. Sharing similarities with the Honda CB350 RS, the render presents a flat saddle and a high mounted muffler which could win the likes of the people. It also features large alloy wheels and a rounded square shaped fuel tank.
The CL250 is expected to be powered by a 249 cc DOHC, 4 valve, single cylinder engine putting out 26 PS of power at 9500 rpm and 22 N-m of peak torque at 7750 rpm. The more powerful CL500 is expected to be powered by the same engine in the Rebel 500. It is a 471 cc parallel-twin DOHC 4 valve engine which puts out 46 PS power at 8500 rpm and 43 N-m of peak torque at 6500 rpm coupled with a 6 speed constant mesh transmission. It is also likely to share the suspension being equipped with telescopic suspension in the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear.
As per the media reports, the less powerful version with a 250 cc engine can make it to the roads by the end of this year, following which the more powerful scrambler will be unveiled later in 2023!
