Honda Stops Production At Greater Noida Plant - Shift Operations To Alwar

After almost two decades of operation, the Honda Noida plant will be closed for production of new vehicles. As per the reports, the Japanese carmaker is planning to stop the production at the manufacturing unit in the Greater Noida. Currently, cars like the new Honda City, Honda CR-V, and Honda Civic were being produced at this plant. The companies corporate office and the R&D department however will continue the operations. The brand will now be shifting all the production-related operation to its larger manufacturing unit located in Tapukara, Alwar.

Honda Noida Plant

The Noida plant started its operation almost two decades ago after the brand entered the Indian market in 1995. Having said that, it is also said that there was no production happening at the Noida plant since last one month. As per the information, there were about 2,000 workers at the Noida plant. The total numbers of the workers came down to 1,000 after most of the workers opted for voluntary retirement scheme (VRS). The other workers have been shifted to the Tapukara plant.

The Noida plant had a production capacity of 30,000 units per year at the time it started its operation. The brand then upgraded this manufacturing facility to produce 50,000 cars annually on a two-shift basis. The production capacity was further increased to about 1,00,000 vehicles by 2008. The Tapukara plant, on the other hand, has a said production capacity of over 1,80,000 units per year.

Honda Noida Plant

Currently, the brand has cars like the Jazz, Amaze, new City, CR-V, and the Civic in addition to a couple of other high-end vehicles in its Indian portfolio. Honda produced around ten thousand cars per month in 2020 if the total sales numbers are considered and about 50 per cent of these vehicles were manufactured at the Greater Noida plant. The Amaze and the City remain one of the best selling vehicles and bring in close to five thousand sales each per month for the Japanese carmaker.
