Husqvarna Motorcycles is a relatively new name in the Indian market. This is a Swedish two-wheeler manufacturer which comes under the umbrella of KTM AG. As Bajaj Auto owns 48 per cent stake in KTM and so both the KTM as well as Husqvarna Motorcycles come under Bajaj Auto. Husqvarna made its India debut earlier this year in February 2020 with two all-new quarter-litre motorcycles, namely the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and the Vitpilen 250. The company was about to launch the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and the Svartpilen 401 in India in December 2020. But now, as per the latest reports, the India launch of the new Husqvarna 401 Twins have been put on hold.
According to the latest media reports, the company officials have confirmed that the company won't be launching the new Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and the Svartpilen 401 anytime soon in the Indian market. This truly comes as a surprise for us as the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 has been caught testing on the Indian roads several times before. Now, as the India launch plan is not certain as of now, so the Svartpilen 401 was most likely undergoing the test rounds because this motorcycle, along with its sibling, the Vitpilen 401 are manufactured in India. The production of these motorcycles takes place at Bajaj's Chakan plant located near Pune in Maharashtra and is then exported to the global markets.

Now, we know why the earlier spied test mules of the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 were running on wire-spoke wheels as they were undergoing tests for the global markets and not for the Indian market. The International-spec Husqvarna 401s ride on wire-spoke wheels with tubed tyres and if and when they come in India, they will most likely get alloys and tubeless tyres with wire-spoke rims as an optional accessory. Talking about the engine of these motorcycles, so just like the Husqvarna 250s and the KTM Duke 250 share a lot of cycle parts and also the powerplant. Similarly, the Husqvarna 401s also have a lot of things in common with the KTM 390 Duke. It even gets the same hardware components including brakes, suspension, etc.

The new Husqvarna 401s are powered by a BS6-compliant 373.2cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke, DOHC, four-valve, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine. This motor churns out 43.5 PS of maximum power at 9000 RPM and 37 Nm of peak torque at 7000 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. While the India launch of the new Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and the Svartpilen 401 have been put on hold for now, its India launch cannot be ruled out completely.
