Hyundai Creta is slated for a Facelift soon

The turbo petrol engine on the Creta was available with the S+ and the SX(O) variants mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission. This catered to a more performance-centric buyer segment. The turbo petrol delivered 140 PS power with a peak torque of 242 Nm and did not power any other car in its lineup. This makes sense as modifying the engine to follow emission norms for a single product would not have been a resourceful decision.

The iMT variants have also been taken off the official website, courtesy of the Real Driving Emission (RDE) norms. The regular petrol engine was offered with the S+ variant. Even though the iMT is more economical to produce than the automated manual transmission, it has been put to rest as well.

  • More manufacturers to follow suit
  • Would help to meet emission norms
  • Creta updated recently with additional safety features and powertrain

VERDICT- Owing to the stricter emission norms, all the manufacturers have been updating their lineup with updates. Courtesy of the same, some specific variants and engine options are being axed as well. Hyundai has started the process. The Creta, i20 and Venue will be looking at 11 variants of chop-off. You can be sure of expecting more revisions from different manufacturers as well. Recently, updates in the Renault lineup were reported by us as well. Tata is also coming up with RDE-compliant engines. What it means for you, are some updates in the powertrain. You could also expect some more cuts in the options on offer. This is also an indication of the increase in prices of select makes and models.
