Indias largest oil manufacturing company, Indian Oil Corporation is in a plan to install 10,000 electric mobility charging stations across the nation. The project is expected to be installed by 2024 whereas 2,000 charging stations will be installed at priority by October 2022. To unlock an additional 750 million pounds for green projects across India, this is a welcome step after the UK committed to providing an Indian Green Guarantee to the world bank. Shrikant Madhav Vidya, Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation said, 2000 EV charging stations will be installed in the next 12 months and the rest 8000 in the next couple of years to achieve the target of 10,000 EV charging stations in the next three years. Eventually, we want to become an energy company in India and not just be restricted to selling petroleum products. The world is changing. We tend to set up EV charging points and battery swapping stations at our petrol pumps alongside offering auto-LPG and conventional fuels. So it will be a bouquet of offerings.
With a focus on electric vehicles and cleaner fuel the Indian Oil Corporation currently holds 40% of the petroleum dominated market. The companies do not have much idea about the step-up of the charging stations as this technology has been recently introduced in the market so stepping into the EV market might not be that easy.
Indian Oil Corporation has already installed 76 charging stations at its petrol pumps and 11 battery swapping facilities at its outlets. Along with researching charging stations, the company is also in a plan to evaluate different advanced batteries technology to install a metal-air battery manufacturing plants for stationary applications and EVs as well.

Except for Petrol and Diesel Indian Oil Corporation also deals with CNG and has positioned itself as the second-largest player in the natural gas sector in India. The company has a license to retail CNG and cooking gas for 40 specified areas in India.
Electric mobility is the next future. No matter whether it is a two-wheeler, three-wheeler, four-wheeler or even a commercial vehicle, India is introducing electric vehicles of all categories with advanced technologies and updated features.
