After speculation was doing rounds on the internet regarding the discontinuation of Jeep Compass Petrol variants, the company itself has put them to rest. But, only by confirming the same. Jeep Compass Petrol variants have been discontinued in India. This now makes Jeep Compass, available only in a sole diesel mill. Interestingly, the diesel Compass Trilhawk is also no longer on sale from May 2023.

Jeep Compass Petrol Discontinued
Since rumours were doing rounds about dealers not accepting bookings for Compass petrol, it wasn't clear if it was temporary or an absolute exit. But now, Jeep India has made an official statement.
It reads-
The Premium SUV segment continues to enjoy strong demand for diesel powertrains. Jeep India will continue to invest and develop its efficient state-of-the-art 2.0 L MultiJet Turbo Diesel powertrains offering superior torque, lower emissions, and impressive fuel efficiency. Jeep India is committed to the market and has significant product plans for the future. We will continue to explore all possible engine and fuel options in line with the evolving market preferences to offer what is most relevant to our consumers.

Now In Turbo-Diesel Only: Petrol Comeback Unlikely Soon
Going forward, the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine has been shelved altogether. Since a newer 1.3-litre turbo petrol is already running globally in Compass, updating the 1.4-litre unit in India would have not made sense. This is owing to the low demand for the petrol variants here. Since diesel made up most of the sales chart number, it now remains the only engine option available, at least, as of now.
There is no update regarding the 1.3-litre unit making its way to the Indian markets. The 2.0-litre diesel unit that now remains, churns out 170 PS power with a peak torque of 350 Nm.
VERDICT- This exit of the petrol variant can be accredited to the low demand for the SUV. Updating an engine for the BS6 Phase 2 norms, which already sells in small numbers is a loss-making proposition. However, The global 1.3-litre petrol unit is unlikely to make its way to India anytime soon.
