- Could see some changes in the production-ready model.
The Auto Expo 2023 saw some concrete launch-ready models along with some concept showcasing as well. And Kia has unveiled its Kia EV9, an all-electric SUV concept here at the Auto Expo 2023. Hyundai's sub-brand is fast gaining traction in Indian Market and with its star performer, the Kia Seltos. Capitalizing on its success, the EV9 concept is showcased to pique the interest of the world towards big-size electric SUVs. What were the highlights of the reveal? Read the details below.
DESIGN
With everything you imagine when you think of an EV car, KIA has surpassed those expectations with the EV9. It is bold and it means business. This is a proper SUV with an imposing stance and high ground clearance. The front of the car sports symmetrical sharp lines. The front grill is what the brand calls its 'Tiger Face' and has evolved for its electric incarnation. The S-shaped DRLs crease out the front profile with some chrome strips.
The rear complements its front proportionally well. It has some solid crease lines with the tail lamps integrated well with the D-pillar of the EV9 concept. The rear bumper gets a dual-tone treatment which makes it look buff and imposing.
The KIA EV9 looks more interesting on the sides as well. It is tall and the quarter panel gets a triangular window pane sharpened out into the roof at the rear. The wheel arches get sizeable cladding with interestingly styled tires complementing the overall design language. All in all, the styling at this concept stage looks sharp and brings a fresh design statement for EVs to follow. The production-ready model, however, could be different from the concept as we have seen in the case of almost every concept car.
Powertrain
The powertrain is still under the curtains as this is a concept unveiling. But sharing the platform with the EV6 it is expected to come with a 77.6 kWh battery pack with fast charging support and multiple powertrains.
VERDICT- Kia's decision to showcase the EV9 at the 2023 Auto Expo indicates that the Korean brand might be evaluating the launch of the all-electric SUV in India. The production-ready model will be a little toned-down version of the concept. An all-electric SUV with a feature-loaded cabin, strong powertrain, and reasonably priced, can definitely carve out its space in the newly evolving electric SUV scene in the Indian market.
