KIA EV9 Specs Revealed
The Kia EV9s architecture is basically the carmakers E-GMP platform, which underpins models such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and KIA EV6. Like its platform-based siblings, it is available in two options: Standard Range and Long Range. Under that, there are a number of drivetrain options, including rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive system. The table for the same is provided for simplicity.
RWD Standard Range | RWD Long Range | RWD | |
Motor(s) | Single motor, rear-wheel drive | Single motor, rear-wheel drive | Dual motor, all-wheel drive |
Power (PS) | 217PS | 204PS | 385PS |
Torque (Nm) | 350Nm | 350Nm | 600Nm |
Battery Capacity | 76.1kWh | 99.8kWh | 99.8kWh |
0-100kmph time | 8.2 seconds | 9.4 seconds | 6 seconds |
The range is a claimed 541 km on the combination of powertrains.
You might have heard car manufacturers offering extra features and performance on extra payment. KIA is the latest entrant on this bandwagon as well. You can unlock an extra 100 Nm of torque by paying a fee on the Kia Connect app, allowing it to clock zero to 100kmph 0.7 seconds earlier, which is a little bizarre concept, to begin with.
Features
Kia never shies away from offering features. And a Global electric SUV is not going to be an exception. You get loads of features and tech on this one. the EV9 supports fast charging thanks to its 800-volt architecture. As a result, you can get a massive 239km of range in just 15 minutes with a fast charger. Also, the SUV gets vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, allowing you to power up certain appliances using the cars battery pack. This is the same as seen on the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Also, the Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2) is offered as a digital feature.
The EV9 will be one step closer to fully autonomous driving as the upcoming GT Line trim is set to receive Level 3 ADAS. But for now, the SUV will get all the regular suite of ADAS as seen in current selling cars
All in all, features wouldn't be a deterrent in buying this vehicle, when it hits the roads.
VERDICT- Kia already sells the EV6 in India, whereas the EV9 concept was showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. With its electric presence already in the country, the EV9 could be launched somewhere in the future as the bigger sibling of the EV6. But first, it is making its way into the home market of Korea. What do you think about the features and specs of the car? Is unlocking more features on payment a smart move? Do share your thoughts.
