KIA Syros - New Micro SUV For India?
KIA has been testing a new small SUV which was spotted on Indian roads as well. The heavily camouflaged test mule was seen with a boxy design language and seemed small in dimension as compared to the Sonet. This suggests that it could be an upcoming micro-SUV by KIA. Some design elements on the test mules seemed similar to other KIA models.
At the front, it was fitted with a clamshell bonnet, a vertically stacked sleek LED DRL, and a big bold grille among other highlights. The side profile gets distinctive-looking alloy wheels which seem to be 16 inches in size. At the rear, it gets a vertically stacked LED tail lamp which enhances its visual appeal from the back. The upright posture of the vehicle gives it an SUV look.
For the features, we can anticipate it to feature a big touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, wireless charging, automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster, an electric sunroof, and leatherette seats among other features.
KIA India has not said anything about the newly filed trademark or whether this vehicle will be launched or not. If launched in the Indian market and the micro SUV segment, the brand might give it a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine as an option. We can anticipate the naturally aspirated engine to be paired with a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.

Verdict
The micro SUV market in India is getting a good response from the customers. Currently, the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch are leading this segment with good number of sales. KIA might tap in this market the KIA Syros. The Syros will compete with the Hyundai Exter and the Tata Punch and if launched we can anticipate the pricing to start at Rs 6-7 lakh (ex-showroom).
