KTM 390 SMC R Caught Testing - Details!
The 390 SMC R shares its platform with the 390 Adventure, and while KTM has not disclosed any technical specifications of the bike, it will be powered by the same 399cc, liquid-cooled powertrain, but in an altered state of tune to suit the nature of a supermoto.
In the spy shots, the bike seems to be running on 17-inch spoke alloy rims, which makes it different from the Enduro R, as that bike gets a 21-inch and 17-inch rear wheel setup. The 390 SMC's smaller wheel setup should make it better suited for its supermoto nature, enabling some level of off-roading and also the ability to attack twisties.
Considering that the 390 Adventure S and the Enduro R will also receive tubeless spoke rims, we can expect the 390 SMC R to be fitted with those as well. In terms of hardware, the bike is expected receive long-travel suspension on both ends with some level of adjustability.
The fact that the spy model has been spotted with a saree guard suggests that KTM is very close to green-lighting this model for the Indian market. In terms of equipment, the 390 SMC R is likely to come with traction control, switchable ABS, traction control, and ride modes, to name a few things.
We can expect more information to come out after the launch of the 390 Adventure S and the 390 Enduro R, so stay tuned!
Verdict
The 390 SMC R could become the first supermoto motorcycle below 500cc to go on sale in India, potentially becoming a segment creator. This will also enable KTM to approach buyers with different skill sets and riding priorities.
