The KTM 390 SMC R has been spotted testing on Indian roads yet again, amidst many other interesting things happening at Team Orange. While KTM has not made any official announcements just yet, according to reports, it is said to be considering the 390 SMC R for India.
With its global debut done not too long ago, and its test mules doing the rounds on Indian roads, something tells us that Team Orange may just be getting a lot more serious about getting the 390 SMC R here. KTM 390 SMC R; Details and What To Expect

The 390 SMC R is a supermoto motorcycle meant to cover both dirt tracks and tarmac as well. It shares its platform with the 390 Adventure. Powering it is the same 399cc, liquid-cooled powertrain, producing 44.2bhp and 39Nm of torque, while paired to a 6-speed gearbox and it also gets a slipper clutch as standard.

Built on a two-piece construction, it consists of a steel trellis main frame and a pressure die-cast aluminium subframe. It comes with 43mm WP USD open cartridge forks with 230mm of travel, compression and rebound adjustability at the front, and at the rear, it gets a WP Apex separate function monoshock with preload and rebound adjustability, along with 230mm of travel.

Rounding things off is a gravity die-cast swingarm made specifically for this motorcycle. The braking setup consists of a 320mm front disc with radially-mounted dual-piston callipers, along with a 240mm disc with a single-piston ByBre floating calliper at the rear.

It remains to be seen what the Indian-spec 390 SMC R will offer in terms of equipment, but some features on the global-spec bike include a 4.2-inch TFT screen, with feature such as turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts, and music streaming. It also gets three riding modes, and dual-channel ABS with a Supermoto mode.

Verdict
The 390 SMC R will become the first sub-500cc supermoto bike in India, thus opening up a new segment for many Indian buyers. The fact that Supermotos are meant to cover both dirt and tarmac might just click with Indian buyers, given the condition of our roads.
