Lexus ROV Concept Looks Rugged And Off-Road Ready

Like any conventional buggy, the Lexus ROV concept looks rugged and compact, following the brands human-centered design philosophy. The protective lightweight frame exposed front and rear suspension and off-road-spec tyres with chunky-looking tread pattern give it a purposeful look and stance. The Lexus ROV concept has a length of 3,120mm, a width of 1,725mm, and a height of 1,800mm.

However, since it is a Lexus at heart, the ROV buggy concept seeks inspiration in some of its design elements on the outside. The bronze-colored ROV buggy gets the brands signature spindle-themed fascia with boomerang-shaped LED lights at the front. The front cross-sectional bar of the roll cage has an LED light bar mounted on it.

The side profile of the Lexus ROV buggy concept has flared wheel arches, which also offer protection against the rough stuff while driving on off-road terrains. With sleek-looking body panels, the Lexus ROV also has L-shaped LED tail lamps on the side edges at the rear. A sleek panel in the middle at the back between the tail lamps has a Lexus lettering badge imprinted on it.

Lexus ROV Concept Has a Functional Cabin With A Touch of Luxury

Being a rugged buggy, the Lexus ROV Concept might not have an opulent and feature-rich cabin we have seen in the brands premium luxury sedans and SUVs. However, the bare-bones cockpit of this buggy concept gets touches of premium craftsmanship and elements, including carbon fibre highlights on the three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel and blanked centre console.

The two-seater cockpit of the Lexus ROV concept has hard-wearing synthetic leather for the seats and a part-digital instrument console with an analogue tachometer following Lexus Tanzuma concept. The slanted lower centre console has a sculpted gearshift knob, a manual handbrake and silver-finished knobs for drive and suspension controls. The cabin also has simple-looking blacked-out inner door panels and a dashboard-mounted grab handle for the co-passenger.

Lexus ROV Concept Sources Its Power From A Hydrogen Engine

Taking a route of cleaner mobility different from the other full-hybrid and electric cars from Lexus, the ROV buggy concept gets a puny rear-mounted 1.0-litre hydrogen engine. While Lexus hasnt revealed the performance outputs of this compact engine, the brand has claimed that it works like a conventional petrol engine, sourcing compressed hydrogen from a high-pressure tank through a direct hydrogen injector. There is no word on the maximum range delivered by this close-to-zero emissions hydrogen buggy from Lexus.

Lexus ROV Concept

Lexus has no plans to launch any vehicle based on the ROV Concept in India, with this concept vehicle kept on display at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 only to gauge public interest.

Verdict

In the Indian context, the Lexus ROV Concept is more of a brand-building proposition, showcasing Lexus approach to developing hydrogen-powered engines. With developments and learnings from this concept, Lexus might introduce more advanced hydrogen-powered engines for future passenger vehicles.
