Mahindra ventured into the premium SUV segment of India in November 2018 by launching its flagship SUV, the Alturas G4. Essentially, Mahindra Alturas G4 is a rebadged SsangYong Rexton G4 which Mahindra decided to launch under its umbrella owing to the poor performance of the last SsangYong Rexton SUV. That said, the Alturas G4 is a very premium SUV with good off-road capabilities but it was still BS4-compliant. However, the Indian carmaker has now officially teased the SUV on its official website hinting that the 2020 Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 will be launched in India in the coming weeks.

The 2020 Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 won't receive much updates except the inclusion of a BS6-compliant engine to meet the stringent BS6 emission norms. The BS4 version of Alturas G4 was powered by a sole 2.2-litre diesel engine. This oil-burner used to produce 180 bhp of maximum power and 420Nm of peak torque, mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox, sourced from Mercedes-Benz. The power and torque figures will remain almost identical and the diesel engine will be made BS6-compliant with the addition of an SCR (Selective Catalytic Converter), a Diesel Particulate Filter (PDF), AdBlue urea solution and an Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.
The BS6-compliant Mahindra Alturas G4 has been spied multiple times on the Indian roads. The SUV could also feature a set of newly designed machine-cut alloys like the one recently spotted with a test mule. Apart from this, we don't expect any major changes in the SUV as it was already a feature-packed & capable SUV. The SUV also boasts sumptuousness and rich-feel due to the premium quality materials and plush leather used inside the cabin.
The Alturas G4 gets a big touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gets a host of safety features like up to nine airbags, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree parking camera, electronic stability program(ESP), hill start assist, hill descent control, ABS with EBD, cruise control, etc. along with other features like a powered tailgate, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control and more.
The BS4 Mahindra Alturas G4 was available in two variants: G2 and G4. The former was priced at Rs. 27.70 lakhs, Ex-showroom and used to come with a 4x2 drivetrain while the latter was priced at Rs. 30.70 lakhs, Ex-showroom and comes with a proper 4x4 offroad-capable system. The 2020 Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 has already been listed on the company's official website with a tag 'Coming Soon.' To keep customer interest keen in this flagship SUV, Mahindra might just launch the BS6 model with a cut in the sticker price too. The older BS4 model was as it is selling with discounts right after its launch.
