Despite three successful launches, Mahindra isn't ready to take a break, as shown by recent spy photos in which the Thar 5 door has been seen. Here's all that you need to know about the upcoming off-roader from Mahindra.
While the Thar 3 door has been a successful product for Mahindra, its lack of space has been a deal breaker for many potential customers. Thus in order to appeal to the enthusiasts who also desire a bit more practicality from their vehicle, Mahindra will introduce the Thar 5 door.
The Mahindra Thar 5 door is expected to be based on the same body on frame platform as the Scorpio N. Thus it is expected that the 5-door Thar will come standard with RWD configuration with the option of 4WD on certain variants.

On the engines front, the 5-door Thar is expected to inherit the engines from its 3-door sibling albeit in different state of tunes. As of today, the Thar 3 door is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel that puts out 130 BHP and 300 Nm. It is also powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine that puts out 150 BHP and 320 Nm.
In addition to more space on the inside, the longer Thar is rumored to get a 7-seater variant too in order to cater to enthusiasts with bigger families. However, the option of 7 seater layout will be limited to select variants only.

Upon launch, the Thar 5-door will lock horns against the 5-door Gurkha (which is also undergoing testing at this point in time). Chances are that the Thar 5-door may also go up against the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny if and when Maruti Suzuki decides to introduce it in the Indian market. Pricing of the 5-door is expected to be in the range of Rs 13-22 lakhs (ex-showroom).
