It was speculated that the Mahindra XUV700 would make its public debut on this Independence Day, but it looks like the latest set of spy pics have just made waiting for the revealing ceremony a lot easier. First impressions are that the Mahindra XUV700 would look a lot like a grown-up XUV500, what with a near-identical silhouette and similarly taut sheetmetal. The front-end carries a familiar grille but a new set of LED headlamps that look like an evolved version of those found the original 'Cheetah-inspired' SUV. The new offering, like the XUV500, features a clamshell design for the hood but its fenders are more flared.
Even the side profile is similar to what you get on the XUV500 but the new model is clearly half a shoe size bigger. Much of the increased length seems to come from the bigger rear-three-quarters, which, by the way, features black cladding on the D-pillar for the floating-roof effect. Interestingly, the alloy wheels seen on this vehicle look a tad small even by the XUV500 standards but we're sure that the production version in the top-spec trim, would get significantly larger rims.

Inside, the highlight of the Mahindra XUV700 will be the Mercedes-like uni-screen layout for the instrument display and the infotainment unit. The new SUV will also offer several first-in-segment and best-in-segment features like a XL-size sunroof, customisable voice alerts, auto headlamp booster, Mercedes S-Class-like smart door handles, air purifier and a lot more. The new offering will even come with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) on top-spec trims.
Powering the new SUV will be the same set of engines that are available on the Thar, albeit, in an updated format. Currently, the petrol engine here, which is a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit, outputs 150PS, while the 2.2-litre diesel engine offers 130PS. For the XUV 700, however, these could offer 200PS and 185PS, respectively,
