Mahindra Auto and every Indian's favourite day - August 15 - is going to be ultra special, as the Indian automotive giant is set to reveal something unique under Project FREEDOM_NU, teased just now on social media. While there's a lot to speculate - with new Mahindra test mules spotted almost daily - our biggest bet is on their all-new Monocoque platform, set to underpin both ICE and EV models. A few weeks ago, reports emerged stating that by 2026, Mahindra will launch 2 EVs and 3 ICE vehicles on this new platform. Mahindra - FREEDOM_NU
The maker of real SUVs - who have seen uprecedent success in this decade always launch something on August 15th, has become a common norm. Last year, Thar Roxx came, and before that - Thar.e was showcased. This time its going to be the new monocoque platform which is capable of housing petrol, diesel, mild hybrid, and pure electric powertrains. Also, automaker in the last month made headlines by stating that by 2030, they will launch 7 new ICE and 5 EVs, and out of these, 3 ICE and 2 EVs are set to hit the roads by 2026. Plus, two of their models will get a mid-life cycle update, and we believe Mahindra is talking about the XUV700 and Bolero here.
Up until now, we have seen several test mules of both these SUVs - where the XUV700 is getting a facelift, but the Bolero is going to be completely changed, with a new body and new engines - yet retaining the same rugged personality. Moreover, Mahindra has set up a new plant in Chakan, located in the Pune district, which will become the hub for this upcoming platform.
Up until now, only this teaser has been released, and at the end of it, we see two Mahindra logos - one indicating ICE vehicles and the other for EVs - so the message is clear. Also, could we see an upcoming car too?
Verdict
When the first news about this upcoming platform came out, it was called the New Flexible Architecture (NFA). However, it now looks like Mahindra has changed its name to FREEDOM_NU - and it perfectly suits it. As it will be one base that works for EVs, ICE, and even hybrid vehicles, it's setting Mahindra free from having to build a new platform every time they work on a new project. This will be their ultimate formula, which will be made public during this Independence Day celebration.
