As per a recent report which surfaced online, Maruti Suzuki India is said to be developing a new Baleno-based crossover. This new Maruti Baleno-based crossover will be designed as a coupe or a mini crossover vehicle and has been code-named 'YTB'. This new vehicle will be based on the existing Baleno platform which will help the brand price this vehicle aggressively in the market. To exploit the tax benefits, this new vehicle will measure less than 4 metres in length and will be competing in the compact SUV segment.
As of now, the brand has only one compact SUV in the market - the Vitara Brezza. First launched in the year 20216, Vitara Brezza turned out to be an instant success for the brand. As per what was is known, the Indian carmaker is aiming at expanding its portfolio to meet with the increasing demand for SUVs in the market. The brand also launched the BS6 Brezza with a highly refined and capable 1.5-L petrol engine which did help it boast some impressive sales figures. Having said that, more details about the engines on offer with this new Maruti Baleno-based crossover are not known.

Meanwhile, it is also expected that the brand will be launching BS6 compliant engines in the coming years with its bigger vehicles. Apart from the YTB, Maruti Suzuki India is also working launching the new Jimny in the Indian market. Once launched, the Jimny will rival the cars like the Mahindra Thar, and the upcoming Force Gurkha. Maruti Suzuki India and Toyota Motor Corp are also believed to be jointly developing the new generation model of the Vitara Brezza and a C segment SUV (check more details).
With this being said, the new Maruti YTB compact SUV is expected to feature a tall boy design with an aggressive styling and an aggressive price. The feature list on offer with this vehicle is also expected to be extensive making it a VFM product in the segment which has rivals like the Hyundai Venue and the Kia Seltos.
