Maruti Suzuki Invicto MPV - Details
The Invicto MPV is more or less Hycross underneath. The Maruti-Toyota joint venture has already produced Grand Vitara & Hyryder. Therefore, the model-sharing concept isn't new. But, the Invicto is supposed to get cosmetic changes. As we saw the design differences in Grand Vitara & Hyryder; it'll also get Maruti's latest design philosophy. It is suspected to get a different front grille, redesigned bumper, and sharper overall design. However, most of the MPV will be the same as the Hycross. The chassis, engine, & interior design will be similar. Also, Maruti might tweak some features on the inside of it but it'll largely be similar to the Hycross.
Now, as the bookings will commence on 19 June, it'll be priced differently than the Hycross. Toyota will manufacture the Invicto like it does the Grand Vitara. However, Maruti will have to pay the royalty to Toyota; hence, it'll be priced above the Hycross. Also, the engine options will be the same. It'll come with a 2.0-lt petrol engine with a strong hybrid powertrain that makes 183 bhp. It'll get an e-CVT transmission on these top variants. Meanwhile, the entry-level versions will get a 2.0-lt, petrol engine that makes 173 bhp. This engine will be offered with a CVT gearbox only. Therefore, the Invicto will also become the first car from Maruti to be only offered with automatic transmission.
Verdict
The Invicto MPV will be the third model in the MPV lineup of Maruti. The Ertiga and XL6 are already one of the best-selling products in their respective categories. However, it'll be difficult to predict how will the Invicto perform in India. As Toyota already sells the Hycross; battling its direct sibling will be slightly tough. Especially, with a premium price tag.
