Mercedes -Benz India is the king of the luxury car segment in India with the most number of sales. Having some luxury-centric range like the S-Class and GLS, the three-pointed star is always ahead of propellor badge and four rings. Just to a smidge more competitive in price, Mercedes-Benz India has decided to start the local assembly of Mercedes-AMG models. The Made in India Mercedes-AMG models will be priced much lesser when compared to CBUs.
Mercedes-AMG offers 8 AMG models in the Indian market which are segregated in 43, 53, 63 and GT series and all models are Completely Built Units (CBU). As these models are fully built imported, they attract big tax and duly impositions which, eventually, take the prices up. The first AMG model to get locally assembled in India is the GLC 43 AMG Coupe which will see a 20% price drop.
Mercedes-Benz India has started the localisation process for the GLC Coupe and it will be launched soon. The SUV Coupe is expected to be priced at Rs 80 lakh whereas, without local assembly, it would have cost around Rs 1 Crore. The previous GLC 43 Coupe was launched at Rs 74.8 lakh ex-showroom. In addition to that, it is the beginning of local assembly which will be followed by more AMG models being assembled in the Indian market.

Close to home, Mercedes-Benz India currently assembles 11 CKD models at the Chakan plant which will be followed by made in India Mercedes-AMG models. The GLC 43 Coupe AMG will be followed by more AMG models in the Indian market and it's only for good in India. Moreover, only the 43 and 53 models are expected to get locally assembled whereas the 63 and 63s models will be CBUs still.
