Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV - Design
Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV will debut in India on 15 September in Pune. This new SUV will religiously follow the electric vehicle design language of Mercedes-Benz. It is going to sit above the EQB SUV and below the EQS electric sedan. The EQE offers a very subtle overall design. At the front, it'll get the piano black panel which will replace the conventional grille. Also, the new LED headlights are connected via an LED bar inserted between the headlights.
The front bumper will offer air intakes for better aerodynamic flow and ADAS sensors will fitted onto it. Meanwhile, the side profile will offer a raised SUV stance with 21-inch alloy wheels (AMG version), piano black wheel arch cladding, and a slight slope in the roof design. The rear end looks more or less like the EQS with LED taillights and a connected LED bar on the boot lid. Most of the exterior design is plain and beautiful in a typical Mercedes fashion. The drag coefficient stands at a staggering 0.25 Cd on the 19-inch wheel variant.
Interior Design
The interiors of the EQE will offer a similar design pattern as seen on the EQS sedan. The dashboard will offer a big connected display which is known as a Hyperscreen setup. The infotainment is a 12.3-inch touchscreen that will offer various connected features like OTT app support, Mercedes X connected tech, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, & a built-in live navigation system as well. Entertainment duties will be covered by the Burmester music system & sub-woofers with Dolby Atmos. It'll also get four-zone climate control system and a big panoramic sunroof.
The interior theme will get a beige and tan mix treatment which will be leather-free. The front seats shall be electrically powered and adjustable with memory functions as well. We also expect that Mercedes will offer ventilated seats as well as heated seat options for the front passengers. Meanwhile, the rear seats will get good cushioning, recline adjust, rear AC vents for passengers, & type-C charging ports as well. The front passengers would be able to charge their phones via a wireless phone charging option as well as type-C charging ports available in the centre console area.
Powertrain Options
The EQE will debut in multiple powertrain options. The base 350+ variant will offer a single 90.6kWh battery option which will be paired to a single rear axle motor. This motor develops a peak power of 288 PS & a peak torque of 565 Nm. The EPA-claimed range of this version is 449 km.
The second option will be a mid-spec 350 4MATIC which will get the 89kWh battery. This battery will power dual electric motors which develop a peak power of 288 PS & a peak torque of 765 Nm. The EPA-claimed range of this powertrain is 409 km.
The top-spec 500 4MATIC variant will get the 90.6kWh battery pack. This battery will power dual electric motors which further produce a peak power of 402 PS & a peak torque of 858 Nm. The EPA-claimed range of this setup is 433 km. All of the above variants will support DC fast charging and can be charged from 0-80 percent with a 170kW charger in under 32 minutes.
Verdict
With the launch of EQE, Mercedes-Benz will extend its footprint in India. The new SUV will rival the BMW iX & Audi Q8 e-tron SUVs. It'll launch on 15 September in Pune. We expect that its introductory price will be Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom).
