MG Gloster - What is it?
MG Gloster is a big full-size SUV. It will be the fourth car in Morris Garages Indian portfolio after the Hector, ZS EV and Hector Plus. Essentially, the MG Gloster is a rebadged Maxus D90 SUV which is sold in other international markets. As you all know, MG Motors is a British-originated Chinese-owned carmaker. It is owned by SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) group that owns multiple other automobile manufacturers too. The upcoming Gloster SUV will be MG's Flagship car in India and the teaser video reveals that it will be loaded with Next-Gen Automotive Technology.
Looks and Dimensions
The MG Gloster is a behemoth. It is a gigantic SUV with sheer dimensions and it will have a great road presence too. The dimensions of the Gloster are mentioned in the table below. Talking about the aesthetic appeal of the SUV, so the Gloster has an old school typical boxy SUV~ish design. But, it gets plenty of modern-age elements. For starters, it gets an all-LED headlamp with LED DRLs and LED foglamps. The SUV has a huge imposing grille and it gets plenty of chrome touches. The side profile houses multi-spoke alloy wheels and roof rails. At the rear, it gets quad-exhaust set-up, a roof-mounted spoiler, etc. So overall, in terms of cred, it is well sorted.

Interiors and Hi-Tech Features
As you have seen in the teaser video above, MG says that the upcoming Gloster will be kitted with next-gen automotive technology. The teaser video reveals that it will get semi-autonomous safety features like hands-free park assist, radar-guided cruise control, automatic emergency braking feature, etc. These are advanced high-tech safety features which we normally get in premium luxury cars only. It is nice to see that MG will offer these features in a sub-40 lakh rupees SUV. Some other features of the Gloster will include a big touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and i-Smart connectivity. Also, it will be offered in a six/seven-seater layout.
Powertrain Options
Powering the MG Gloster will be BS6-compliant petrol and diesel engine options. It will get an in-house developed 2.0-litre diesel engine that will churn out around 218 PS of power and 480 Nm of peak torque. This engine will come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and it will also get a part-time 4WD system with a low range transfer case. The Gloster will also get a powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This petrol motor will churn out 224 PS of power and 360 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
Launch Timeline, Expected Price and Rivals
Lastly, talking about the launch timeline, expected price and its rivals. So, the MG Gloster is expected to hit the Indian showrooms by this festive season, i.e., around October/November. The Gloster is actually bigger than other full-size SUVs currently on sale in India and it packs more punch and features too. We expect that it will be priced in the ballpark of Rs. 35-45 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. The MG Gloster will indirectly rival the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Volvo XC40 in India. Like all other MG cars in India, we expect that the Gloster will also get attractive service packages and additional benefits to lure the SUV buyers.
