Honda City is one of the most successful Honda Cars in India. In fact, this Japanese car manufacturer entered the Indian market in 1998 with the City and gained immense popularity. The Honda City has always been a benchmark in its segment owing to multiple reasons and it has been shining exquisitely since the last two decades. Hitherto, India has witnessed four generations and multiple facelifts of the City. And now, Honda Cars India has finally revealed the details of the new 2020 Honda City BS6. The launch of the new fifth-generation Honda City is just around the corner and it will hit the Indian showrooms really soon. 2020 Honda City BS6: Looks and Dimensions
The Honda City has always been a fantastic-looking car and the fifth-generation City is no different. The new 2020 City gets a complete makeover and looks sleeker and more captivating than before. It sports some design-cues that bear resemblance to its elder sedans like the Civic and the Honda Insight. Honda calls it an Ambitious Sedan and the design of the car is inspired by the motion of the Japanese Katana blade which gives it an acute horizontal character. It follows a continuity of lights with a sharp shoulder line that accentuates its premium look and length.
Upfront, it gets Honda's signature chrome-embellished grille with wrap-around first-in-segment all-LED headlamps, LED DRLs and L-shaped turn indicators. The hood, bumper as well as the fog-lamp assembly has been completely revised and it gets a low-riding stance to enhance its sporty appeal. The side profile of the car looks neat which houses the new 16-inch dual-tone machined-cut alloys. At the rear, it gets new Z-shaped 3D LED wraparound taillamps with a shark-fin antenna. Overall, it looks very striking and the exterior design is a blend of sportiness and elegance with an aerodynamic impression.
Talking about dimensions, the new 2020 Honda City is marginally bigger than its predecessor. The new fifth-gen City measures 4,549 mm in length, 1,748 mm in width and 1,489 mm in height. It is 109 mm longer, 53 mm wider but 6 mm shorter than the outgoing model. The wheelbase of the car stands at 2,600 mm which is the same as before. However, we believe that the increase in length and width should free up some extra room to better accommodate three passengers on the rear seats. Also, worth mentioning is that with these immense dimensions, the 2020 Honda City is now the longest and the widest sedan in its class.
2020 Honda City BS6: Interiors and Features
The new Honda City sports best-in-class interior and features. It gets premium dual-tone beige and black finish inside the cabin, unlike the global model which gets an all-black theme. The interior of the new City has been spruced-up and it receives better quality materials with top-notch fit and finish. Taking the centre stage of the dashboard is an 8.0-inch (20.3 cms) touchscreen infotainment system which is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It also gets the next-generation Honda Connect system which will have a Telematics Control Unit (TCU) that can remotely share the car's status and other details.
This Honda Connect System offers as many as 32 connected car features and it is India's first connected car with Alexa remote capability. The new City also gets a 17.7 cms HD fully-coloured TFT multi-information display (MID) along with the analogue dials of the instrument cluster that show a ton of information like real-time fuel efficiency, digital speed and an innovative G-force meter. Some other features include a one-touch electric sunroof, automatic climate control, push stop/start button, keyless entry, remote engine start, auto-dimming inside rearview mirror, sunshades for the rear-seats, ambient lighting with LED interior lamps, steering mounted controls, cruise control and many more.

2020 Honda City BS6: Engine, Transmission and Mileage
The new 2020 Honda City gets Hondas superior Earth Dreams Technology range of BS6-compliant powertrains. It gets a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that churns out 121 PS of power at 6600 RPM and 145 Nm of torque at 4300 RPM. The engine comes coupled to a 6-speed manual as well as a 7-step CVT gearbox. The petrol version of the new City gets VTC (Variable Valve Timing Control) to deliver high fuel efficiency, low emission and spirited driving performance.
The petrol CVT variants also get steering-mounted paddle shifters for a delightful driving experience. The ARAI-claimed fuel-efficiency for BS6 petrol with MT is 17.8 kmpl while the BS6 petrol with CVT is rated at 18.4 kmpl. It also gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 100 PS of power at 3600 RPM and 200 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and the ARAI-claimed fuel-efficiency is rated at 24.1 kmpl.
2020 Honda City BS6: Safety Equipment
The new fifth-generation Honda City is loaded with safety equipment up to the brim. It is made up of ultra-high tensile strength steel and gets up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with first in segment Agile Handling Assist (AHA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Tire Pressure Monitoring System with Tire Deflation Warning System, ISOFIX child seat mounts, three-point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seatbelts and head restraints for all five seats, rear parking sensors with multi-angle rear-view parking camera, etc.
It also gets a very useful feature called Lane-watch Camera Assist which we have already seen in the Honda Civic. Basically, a wide-angle camera is mounted down below the passenger side ORVM and it shows the blind vision every time you put the indicator stock to the left or press the lane watch camera button. Not to forget, the new 2020 Honda City has got 5 Star Safety Rating in ASEAN NCAP Crash Test.
2020 Honda City BS6: Launch Timeline, Price and Rivals
The new 2020 Honda City will be launched really soon in India. We expect the new-gen City to hit the Indian showrooms by July 2020. It is expected to be priced between Rs. 10 lakhs - Rs. 15 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. Upon launch, it will rival against other C-segment sedans which include the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid, and Volkswagen Vento.
