Tamil Nadu-based electric vehicle start-up Ampere Vehicles has teased its new upcoming electric scooter. For those who don't know, let me tell you that Ampere isn't a new name in the country. Ampere Electric Vehicles by Greaves Cotton (an Indian engineering company) is one of India's leading Electric Mobility brand. It specializes in delivering affordable mobility solutions for the last mile. The company was founded back in 2008 and it has more than a decade experience in the E-mobility space. Hitherto, more than 60,000 Ampere electric scooters have already been sold in the country. The company has officially teased its new Ampere Electric Scooter and it will be launched soon in India.
The upcoming Ampere electric scooter will be the first EV launch from the company in 2020. While there are scarce details about the Ampere's new electric product at the moment, going by the teaser images it seems that it will be a new range-topping variant of the Ampere Magnus. The teaser images reveal that it is likely to sport the same silhouette as the Magnus 60 E-scooter. The new electric scooter can be called the Magnus 'Pro' as it will be more feature-loaded compared to the regular model. The teased images hint that the scooter might get a new large headlamp (possibly all-LED unit) with chrome surrounds, etc.
The upcoming Ampere electric scooter will get an all-digital instrument cluster. The company might offer e-sim and application-based connectivity features too. It will also get a comfortable single-piece seat, alloy wheels, a front disc brake unit with E-ABS (Electronic Assisted Braking System) and regenerative braking etc. The scooter will also get a revised suspension set-up to offer better comfort on the go. Like, the Ampere Magnus, we believe that this electric scooter will also look like ICE-powered (internal combustion engine) conventional scooters. It will get a handsome muscular body with funky colour shades too.

Talking about the powertrain, the company hints that it will get extra performance. As we mentioned before, it is expected to be a top-spec model of the Magnus E-scooter and so it will deliver better performance than the Magnus. Currently, the Ampere Magnus electric scooter gets a 60-volt 20Ah lead-acid battery with a 250-watt brushless DC electric motor. This scooter has a claimed range of 45-50 kilometres on a single charge and can be fully juiced up in around 8-10 hours. It is a low-speed model with a top speed of 25 kmph.
The new Ampere electric scooter is expected to get a lithium-ion battery pack with a new electric motor that will deliver better performance compared to the current Magnus E-scooter. We expect that the upcoming E-scooter will deliver better range too. Lastly, talking about price and launch date, so the upcoming Ampere electric scooter will be launched in India on June 15, 2020. It will be launched in a digital event and is expected to be priced under Rs. 70,000 Ex-showroom. The electric scooter will be locally manufactured at Ampere's plant in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, only the battery packs will be sourced from Taiwan or China.
