Aprilia will soon launch its first maxi-scooter in the Indian market and it will be the new 2020 Aprilia SXR 160. The new Aprilia SXR 160 BS6 will also be the first 160cc maxi-scooter in India and second overall, the first being the Suzuki Burgman Street 125. The Aprilia SXR 160 was initially about to be launched in mid-2020. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, its launch was delayed. But now, the Italian two-wheeler maker will soon launch this maxi-scooter in India. In fact, the price of the Aprilia SXR 160 has leaked on the internet and the bookings are also now open.
The Aprilia SXR 160 was first showcased in India at the 2020 Auto Expo. A few weeks ago, it was even teased by the Italian two-wheeler maker on its official website and social media handles. The SXR 160 is a very handsome-looking scooter and has a macho appeal. Being a maxi-scooter, it seems quite bulky and is longer, wider and more spacious than other scooters in this segment. It gets a large scooped-out footboard, a long and comfortable single-piece seat, a windscreen and more. At the front, it gets big twin LED headlamps with LED DRLs and the rear too houses unique LED tail lamps.

Talking about the powertrain, the new Aprilia SXR 160 BS6 will share its mechanicals with the Aprilia SR 160 ABS. Thus, it will get the same mill and will be powered by a BS6-compliant 160cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, three-valve, fuel-injected engine. The motor will churn out around 11.01 PS of maximum power at 7600 RPM and 11.6 Nm of peak torque at 6000 RPM. The engine will be mated to a CVT. Aprilia might tune the SXR 160 slightly differently to match its maxi-scooter characteristics. However, even with these power and torque figures, it will be the most powerful scooter in the Indian market.
Talking about the hardware components, it will get telescopic forks at the front and spring-loaded dual shock absorbers at the rear. For braking duties, it will get disc brakes at either end with a single-channel ABS as an additional safety aid. The Aprilia SXR 160 will also get a new all-digital instrument cluster. It might get an optional Bluetooth-enabled smartphone connectivity feature too. Now, finally talking about the leaked price, launch timeline and bookings details, so according to some media reports, it will be launched in India by the end of this month or in early December 2020.

According to the leaked details, the price of the new Aprilia SXR 160 BS6 will start at Rs. 1.24 lakhs, Ex-showroom Chennai and it will cost around 1.40 lakh rupees on-the-road Chennai (Tamil Nadu). The unofficial bookings for the same are already open for 5,000 rupees and the deliveries will most likely commence from the first week of December 2020.
