New Bajaj E-scooter Spied, To Be Cheaper than e-Chetak

The upcoming new Bajaj e-scooter will share certain parts with the Chetak. It will be FAME-II compliant and will have a cheaper price tag.

Bajaj was the first two-wheeler automotive company that entered the electric space with the electric Chetak. However, with a starting price of Rs. 1.37 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base Premium model, makes it quite expensive for a scooter that will be primarily used for short-distance commute. This is even after FAME-II subsidies. This makes the Chetak quite an expensive affair, especially when the segment is seeing new and affordable offerings like the Ola S1 and S1 Pro scooters.

Bajaj seems to be aware of this development, so to remain in the competition they are working on a new, price-friendly e-scooter. The new model was spied on being tested on Indian roads in disguise. It features a sleek design like the Chetak, but with some crucial differences. For example, the headlights are apron-mounted, and the rear section looks compact as well with just the taillights and the turn indicators. The number plate comes mounted on the swingarm, and the swingarm looks like the same unit found in the Chetak e-scooter.

The resemblance of the new scooter's swing arm with the Chetak gives us an idea that it might also share the same powertrain components. For reference, the Bajaj Chetak is powered by a 4 kW motor that is attached to a 2.9 kWh battery. This set-up helps provide the 85-95 km of riding range and has a top speed of 70 kmph. The average charging time is 5 hours, but if charged with a fast charger unit it takes 4 hours.

Given that the new e-scooter will be affordable and less pricey than the e-Chetak, Bajaj will cut costs in some departments. This means that the switchgear will be of the basic quality,  the mirror stalks will be less fancy, and the bodywork mostly will also be comprised of fiberglass instead of the Chetaks steel body frame. But the instrument console will remain the same digital unit as the one found in the Chetal e-scooter. However, premium features like keyless operations, ad sequential indicators will not be available. A design feature that stood out Was the flat bad, and a new split-seat design, just like the newly updated Aprilia SR 160 and SR 125.

We are not sure what the name of the scooter will be. But Bajaj has trademarked the names Fluir and Fluor, quite a while ago. Will the spied scooter be named one of these?
