Under the new rules, there's a welcome change for those seeking a driver's license. Now, instead of solely relying on RTO visits, private centres are authorized to conduct driving tests. The process remains straightforward: applicants begin by submitting their license application either in person at their local RTO or online via the Parivahan website, along with the required fee. Next up, applicants head to government-approved driving schools for the test.

Upon passing the driving test at these schools, applicants receive a certificate. However, this isn't the final hurdle. They still need to visit their nearby RTO armed with the necessary documents and certificates. Fortunately, the updated rules have eased the document requirements, making the process smoother for applicants. But before hitting the roads, they must also demonstrate their driving skills at the RTO.

This new regulation also introduces minimum duration requirements for driving lessons, encompassing both theoretical and practical aspects. For light motor vehicles such as cars, bikes, and scooters, a minimum of 29 hours spread over 4 weeks is mandatory. Meanwhile, for licenses pertaining to heavy motor vehicles like buses and trucks, applicants must dedicate at least 38 hours over a span of 6 weeks to their training.

In order to obtain government approval for driving tests, training schools must meet specific criteria. For general training purposes, they should have a minimum of one acre of land, while for four-wheeler vehicles, at least two acres of land space are required. Additionally, these centres need to employ experienced trainers with a minimum of five years of expertise, holding a high school diploma and possessing knowledge of IT systems.

These new regulations aim to ease the workload of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) while providing a more efficient process for license applicants. This means less waiting time for individuals undergoing the licensing procedure, thanks to a streamlined approach.

These changes aim to streamline the process, making it quicker and more efficient for individuals looking to acquire their licenses. This update is designed to save time and simplify the overall procedure.
