Just recently, Honda did away with the W-RV and the Jazz. This left only 2 products housed in the showrooms for sale. This not only created a vacuum of options but also a little uneasy feeling among the dealership owners. Everyone was wondering what the Japanese Auto Samurai has in store. This can't be just it. And then came the announcement of a new compact 2023 Honda SUV, directly at war with the Hyundai Creta on its home turf. Since then, it has been spotted testing on quite a few occasions already.
Let's look at the spy shots and all the info that we have.
New Honda SUV Global Debut On June 6
This new SUV could be called 'Elevate' as Honda registered this trademark back in 2021. This tag is most probably the one to be handed to this Creta rival. And the Honda SUV is making its global debut in India on June 6, 2023, at an event in New Delhi. Since the car was showcased to dealers in Thailand, a sense of relief has prevailed. The teasers and the spy shots till now suggest slim and sharp headlamps design with a tall upright stance bonnet. This will impart the proper SUV styling that the earlier WR-V and the BR-V failed to nail.
What The Spy Shots Reveal
The most obvious noticeable point is the stance of the SUV. It sits well as the rival of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. Although not a lot of pictures are available of its interior, one shot does give away cues of a big infotainment touchscreen. The driver's display is reportedly going to be all digital as well. The chunky cladding and prominent wheel arches add to its rugged feel.
Powertrain
The new Honda SUV will be based on the same platform as the 5th generation Honda City. The engine unit is a 1.5-liter mill that is currently working in the City. The same gearbox options are likely to continue as well. A 6-speed manual and a CVT, with no option of diesel in sight. However, a strong hybrid option is on the cards, just like the City.
VERDICT- This is the perfect time for Honda to move into the compact SUV segment. A shrinking portfolio and the hot space that the SUVs are in right now make the environment quite favorable for a new Creta rival. And what better than the already trusted premium brand like Honda?
