Okinawa Scooters is one of the fastest-growing electric two-wheeler manufacturers in the country. Being a pioneer in the Indian E-mobility space, Okinawa is constantly striving to make its products a favourable alternative to the regular petrol-powered two-wheelers. This Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer currently sells only electric scooters in the country but the company will soon venture into the E-bike space too. A few days ago, Okinawa revealed that its first electric bike will be 100% Made in India and will be launched soon. 1. Looks and Colours
Okinawa Oki100 is an electric motorcycle with compact dimensions which made its first public appearance at the 2018 Auto Expo. It looks like a monkey bike with tight proportions but features a muscular stance with its bulbous fuel tank, exposed red trellis frame and a bulky front-end. The E-bike also gets an all-LED lighting set-up with a round LED headlamp that makes it resemble a lot like the Ducati Monster. It also gets red-painted front alloy wheel, a single-piece sculpted seat and a quirky rear-end. The motorcycle showcased at the Expo was finished in a bright red colour scheme and we expect the production-spec model to be offered in multiple colour shades.
2. Powertrain Specs, Top Speed and Range
The Okinawa Oki100 will be powered by a 2.5 kW belt-driven electric motor that will churn out 3.3 PS of power and will come with detachable lithium-ion batteries. The electric motorcycle will draw its power from 72V 63Ah swappable lithium-ion batteries and the company claims a riding range of around 150 kilometres on a single charge and once the battery is drained, it can be fully juiced up in just 2 hours via the standard fast charger. Although the electric motorcycle churns out just 3.3 PS of power, being an EV it will develop a healthy torque output and the company also claims a top speed of 100 kmph.
3. Features
The Okinawa Oki100 electric motorcycle will be loaded with new modern-day features. The E-bike will get an all-digital instrument cluster that will show a ton of information like speedometer, odometer, twin trip-meters, low-battery warning, battery remaining status and more. Like other Okinawa scooters, the Oki100 electric bike is also expected to get a four-in-one immobilizer key by which you can turn on the horn & lights of the bike, can lock/unlock it, can immobilize it to protect it from strangers or thieves and also can switch on the ignition of the E-bike remotely. The bike will also get smartphone connectivity as well as OTA updates in the future.
4. Hardware Specifications
The upcoming electric motorcycle from Okinawa will be based on an all-new lightweight trellis frame and will pack in some other good hardware bits too. For starters, the suspension duties of the bike will be handled by upside-down (USD) forks at the front and a mono-shock absorber at the rear. The electric motorcycle will also get large disc brakes at both the front as well as at the rear and will come equipped with a single-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) as standard.
5. Price and Launch Date
Talking about the launch timeline, Okinawa has officially declared that the Oki100 electric motorcycle will be launched in the third quarter of the current financial year and thus we can expect it to hit the Indian showrooms by the end of 2020. The Indian automaker has also shared that except for the battery cells, all the other components of the upcoming Okinawa Oki100 will be manufactured in India. It is expected to be priced under Rs. 1 lakhs, Ex-showroom and will rival against the likes of the Revolt RV 300 and the RV 400.
