Electric public transportation is becoming more popular in metros and other smart cities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated 150 Olectra buses to Pune public transportation on March 6, 2022, together with a state-of-the-art bus depot and charging station at Baner. These buses are built by Olectra Green, an e-bus manufacturer based in Hyderabad.
These 150 buses have been assigned to the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML). In Pune, Olectra has now successfully operated over two crore kilometres. These new buses are said to have a slew of safety elements on board, as well as a seating capacity of 33 people.

These electric buses are 12-metre air-conditioned buses featuring CCTV cameras, an emergency panic button, and USB plugs on each seat for commuter convenience. The buses are equipped with a lithium-ion battery that can go up to 200 kilometres on a single charge, depending on commuter load and traffic conditions. It can be completely charged in 3-4 hours using a high-power AC and DC charging method. The buses also include a regenerative braking technology, which allows them to recuperate kinetic energy lost during braking.
Olectra Greentech Ltd, a subsidiary of Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd, is an electric bus pioneer with fleets in Surat, Mumbai, Pune, Silvassa, Goa, Nagpur, Hyderabad, and Dehradun, in addition to Pune.
