India is the largest two-wheeler market in the world and this country is home to gargantuan native bikemakers who have proven their prowess across the globe. Among many, we have the Pune-based indigenous two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto which now stands as the third-largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. Bajaj Auto proudly advertises that it is The World's Favourite Indian and we do agree that. Bajaj is very famous in the international markets with exports to over 70 countries of the world. Also, Bajaj Boxer is the most exported bike from India for years and it repeats its success in the financial year 2019-20 too. So, in this article, we tell you Why the Bajaj Boxer is so famous globally?

Before we begin, let us give you a brief minutia about the Bajaj Boxer. The Bajaj Boxer was first launched in India as a 100cc motorcycle under the alliance of Kawasaki. The motorcycle was launched as Kawasaki Bajaj Boxer 100 in the year 1997 and in its initial years, it fetched good sales volume for the bikemaker. However, with the passage of time, the motorcycle has started to feel dated and thus Bajaj discontinued it and launched the Bajaj CT 100 as its successor.
The Indian manufacturer tried to rejuvenate the Boxer moniker and re-launched the Bajaj Boxer in India in 2011 but as a 150cc motorcycle. The Boxer BM (Bharat Motorcycle) 150 was a rough & tough motorcycle made especially for the rural markets to carry out heavy-duty activities. However, the motorcycle couldn't succeed as expected and was very soon discontinued as people wanted cheap mobility solutions and the Boxer was a bit expensive considering competitors were 100cc and it was 150cc. This is when Bajaj decided to turn its fortune and export it to international markets.
The Bajaj Boxer became hugely popular in the global markets and since the financial year 2016-17, it is (almost) always the most exported bike from India. Recently, the export figures for the financial year 2019-20 were revealed and the Boxer created a new record. More than 1 Million Bajaj Boxer Motorcycles have been exported from India in FY 2019-20 which was 10,93,451 units to be precise. This was a huge 20% year-on-year growth in exports over the 9,08,200 units of FY 2018-19. This is for the first time in the history that over a million units of a single motorcycle have been exported from India.
Now, coming to our main question, why is it so famous globally? The Boxer BM 150 is a very popular motorcycle and dominant brand in African countries mostly because it is perfect for their ideal riding conditions. The demography of emerging countries are almost identical to the condition of rural India and so people love it. It has a flat and very wide seat which can accommodate three persons at a time along with some extra luggage on the luggage rack/carrier, wider tyres with good treads for better grip on broken patches and muddy roads and also SNS suspension for a comfy ride.
It is also very practical to carry stuff on it and has a tough build quality. The Boxer 150 is also highly acclaimed in the Philippines and they consider it to be a very feature-loaded affordable motorcycle. In a nutshell, we can say that Bajaj Boxer BM 150 is a highly sought-after motorcycle in countries like Africa, Nigeria, Mexico, Latin America, Philippines etc. because of its sturdy build quality, practicality, good features, funky colour combinations, comfortable ride as per their road conditions and affordability compared to the Japanese rivals.
Interestingly, the most exported motorcycle from India isn't sold in its native country. Do you want Bajaj to re-launch the Boxer BM 150 in India? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
