Electric powertrains have certainly gained pace and popularity over the previous months. The government is not only promoting electric light motor vehicles but also actively encouraging electric commercial vehicles. In lieu of the advantages offered, PMI Electro Mobility has recently announced that it will soon set up its commercial electric vehicle manufacturing plant in the city of Pune.
As per the reports, this unit would be the largest electric commercial vehicle manufacturing facility under PMU Electro Mobility. It would have a production capacity of manufacturing around 2,500 electric commercial vehicles per year. The manufacturing operations in this unit would be kick started in October 2023 with support for manufacturing multiple variants and drivetrains. Equipped with the latest manufacturing technologies with cost effective manufacturing practices, this facility would promise delivery of quality products with a high asset turnover ratio.
The current manufacturing facility under the enterprise is situated in Delhi NCR and is capable of producing 1500 electric buses per annum. This build-up of PMI group's plans with the Pune plant will aid the enterprise to scale up its production with a total manufacturing capacity of more than 4000 electric commercial vehicles per year.

This new manufacturing facility would be spread over 35 acres and would be situated in Chakan, Pune. This unique location would prove to be strategically and logistically perfect for the enterprise as this would provide easy access to Nhava Sheva port and ease out the supply chain system in the west, central and south India. It would also help to boost employment by employing around 1500 workers and would also conform to the Green Building Norms as per the government.
As per the authorities at PMI Electro Mobility, they aspire of contributing significantly to the Make In India and Make for India campaigns which would help them become the pioneers of developing zero emission electric commercial vehicles in the country. As sustainable mobility plays a significant role in the development of the nation, this expansion would also help the government of India achieve the aim of zero carbon footprint from the automotive industry and public transportation over the years.

PMI Electro Mobility has also entered into a partnership with Foton, which is a global commercial mobility brand which would aid in providing technological support to the enterprise for the development of electric powertrains and other commercial mobility solutions in India.
