In this article, we will be examining the pros and cons of Royal Enfield Himalayan and will tell you whether is it the right bike for you or not.
So what exactly makes the Royal Enfield Himalayan a preferred ADV? Here are the pros of the bike.
1. Ergonomics - One of the strongest pros of the Himalayan is sorted ergonomics. The seating is height perfect, the neutral footpegs allow for the feet to remain in a comfortable position and the handlebars provide good leverage and don't feel that wide. All in all, this makes for a very comfortable touring bike.

2. Engine - The 411 cc engine of the Himalayan which saw a slight dip in power post the BS6 upgrade still remains of the strongest points of the Himalayan. With plenty of low end and mid-range torque, overtaking remains a breeze. This torque also means that highway jaunts are fairly stress-free as well.
3. Looks - This is something that holds true for most Royal Enfield products and the Himalayan is no different. It indeed is one looker of a bike which are enhanced by elements such as large tyres, long-travel suspensions and classy colour combinations.
However, the Royal Enfield Himalayan does have its fair share of flaws. Here they are.
1. Heft - The Himalayan is indeed one heavy bike, and the BS6 upgrade means that the bike now is 5 kgs more than its BS4 counterparts. This is a serious bummer for off-road enthusiasts who like to do slides and jumps with the bike as this will now require extra effort as compared to the older ones.
2. Lack of features - This is again something very typical of Royal Enfield. While there is an updated Himalayan on the way which will be getting the tripper navigation system with some extra goodies, the current one is extremely basic and utilitarian when it comes to features (or lack of thereof)

3. Braking - The brakes on the Himalayan have always been a sore point, be it in the BS4 or in the BS6 guise. Although the brake lever provides decent levels of feel and feedback, the distances still remain a lot which will require the rider to plan the braking manoeuvre before actually coming to a halt.
Should you buy it?
The Himalayan is one bike that may draw you more from the heart than the mind. Its capable yet quirky at the same time and thus may not be for everyone. However given the fact that most ADV riders in the country prefer emotion more than other factors, this might just be the right machine for you.
