Renault India will be showcasing the Zoe EV electric hatchback at the 2020 Auto Expo which will be held in Greater Noida from 7-12 February. This will be the car maker's first such offering for the domestic market.
Every OEM is now considering EVs for India and marking up suitable cars for the Indian market from their global portfolio. Renault has plans to launch the Zoe electric hatchback in India in the next 12-18 months. the company is considering some key factors which are evident in the Indian market and changing the parameters accordingly. For instance, the average road condition and tall speed breakers promote the chances of underbody scraping and Renault is altering the suspension and ground clearance accordingly to prevent these situations. Renault India has also begun the testing of the India-spec Zoe electric.
In the global markets, the Zoe is powered by a new and more powerful 54Kw battery pack with 135 hp but in India, we will be getting the old 41Kw battery pack with 90 hp as it is more suitable and cost-effective for our market. The battery will give a range of around 350 kilometres. The pricing is not going to be competitive though, with the expected price of 14-16 lakhs, it will be roaming at the compact SUV segment but actually it's an urban electric hatchback.
Renault is evaluating to partly manufacture the Zoe EV to keep the cost under a limit. There is no legit confirmation on the specifications and other information for now but Renault might share the same at the 2020 Auto Expo. Renault Zoe won't have a direct rival for now but looking at its expected price, it will be taking the likes of the upcoming Tata Nexon EV and Tata Altroz EV. ORA R1 will also be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo from the house of Great Wall Motors. These EVs will create a lot of buzz in the market through the upcoming event and initiate the adaptation of electric vehicles.
