The lockdown period has been extended till 3rd May 2020 which means the initial news of BS4 cars/bikes being allowed for sale might not hold true now. It is, however, safe to assume that the government might allow the sale post 3rd of May 2020 but with the same conditions as explained below. As and when we get an update, we will add that to this same article. Thanks!

The Supreme Court has finally allowed the sale of BS4 cars and bikes to resume even post 1st April 2020 but there are a lot of strings attached with this update. While we are still getting news from sources, here is what we know till now on the decision made by the Supreme Court on the unsold stock of BS4 vehicles:
- The first thing that is clear is that the sale of BS4 vehicles will not take place in Delhi NCR. This means if you are from Delhi or the National Capital Region, you cannot buy a BS4 car or a two-wheeler
- Supreme Court has allowed the sale of only 10% of the current stock of BS4 vehicles. This is very harsh in our opinion as due to a complete lockdown, no showroom was operational since the past few days.
- 90% of the new car sales will have to be of the BS6 compliant ones as per news coming in. Most manufacturers in India have updated their entire range to comply with BS6 emission norms.
- The registration of the BS4 vehicles will have to done within 10 days of purchase.
- We are still not clear on the timeline of this as India will remain in a lockdown state till the 14th April. Will the showrooms be allowed to operate after that?
- UPDATE: Sale of BS4 cars and bikes will be allowed from 15th till the 24th of April (a period of 10 days)
- Stay tuned as we will keep updating this post as and when we get hold of concrete news from our sources
As many as 15000 passenger cars, 12000 commercial vehicles and 7 lakh two-wheelers, all of which are not BS6 compliant, remain unsold.
