Simple Energy Electric Cars by 2023-24, Confirms CEO Suhas Rajkumar

Simple Energy is yet to start deliveries of their debut electric scooter, Simple One in June, this year. Further, plans include electric motorcycles and cars as well.

Along with Ola Electric, Bangalore-based Simple Energy was the second electric two-wheeler manufacturer that created quite the noise with their debut products. However, both have had delivery issues, and while Ola Electric has started delivery of the S1 and S1 Pro, Simple Energy is yet to start theirs. However, recently both the companies have made unofficial announcements of expanding their portfolio further with electric cars as well.

In an interview with a leading online website, the CEO and founder of Simple Energy, Suhas Rajkumar has confirmed that the company plans to expand several more affordable electric scooters in the pipeline, perfectly suited for a price-sensitive market like India. They will also expand their portfolio to include electric motorcycles in the market, alongside Simple Energy electric cars by 2024, at the latest.

Currently, the company is focused to deliver its first product, the Simple One. This electric scooter has the highest claimed range of 240 kms, which is not offered by any other electric two-wheeler manufacturer in India. The Ola S1 has a range of 181 kilometers, and it ranks after Simple. The scooters angular proportions and the front apron might give you the impression of an Ather 450X, per se. But this is a completely different electric scooter.

The One is powered by a 4.8 kWh battery that is connected to an electric motor, which in turn churns out 72 Nm of torque and 4.5 kW of peak power. This helps the Simple One to accelerate from 0-40  kmph in just 2.95 seconds, with a top speed of 105 km/h. Some of the standout features in the Simple One scooter are a new intuitive smart dashboard, the largest in the segment boot space at 30-liters, and much more.

However, coming back to our main story the Simple Energy electric car. The company recently signed an MoU with the Govt. of Tamil Nadu for investments worth up to Rs. 2500 crore. This will be used to set up manufacturing plants in the state.  Their first plant is being set up in Shoolagiri (Hosur), and it will be fully operational by mid-this year. Their second plant will be complete by 2023. So, given the operational capacity of two massive plants, the chances of an electric car cannot be totally negated.
