Skoda Karoq Almost Sold Out in India in Just Six Months - All Details

Skoda Auto India Private Limited launched multiple cars in the Indian market this year. The Czech car manufacturer hosted a gigantic digital launch event in May 2020 and launched not just one or two but three new BS6-compliant cars - Rapid TSI, Karoq and Superb. The Skoda Karoq was launched at Rs. 24.99 lakhs, Ex-showroom pan-India. It was brought to India via the CBU route in limited numbers. Though it was priced a bit premium, almost all the units of the Skoda Karoq are sold out in just six months.

The bookings for the Skoda Karoq SUV were commenced in early May while the launch took place on May 26, 2020. Surprisingly, almost all the units of the Skoda Karoq are sold out in India. The Karoq was brought to India as a CBU (completely built-up unit) and that too in very limited numbers, 1000 units to be precise. At that time, India was under nationwide lockdown, the economy was disrupted and whatnot, all because of the novel coronavirus. But, the coronavirus pandemic didn't really stop the buyers to get hold of this premium five-seater Skoda Karoq SUV.

While replying to a comment on Twitter that said Karoq is overpriced, Mr Zac Hollis, Director - Sales, Service & Marketing, Skoda Auto India, tweeted, "I only had 1,000 cars as FBU's (fully built units) and I sold them all. The car was well-positioned as a luxury, large and safe SUV and nearly all cars sold in 9 months. A great job done by the whole team." The new Skoda Karoq is indeed a premium SUV. It looks like a scaled-down Kodiaq, which is a good thing and it has an appealing design language. The Skoda Karoq is a very feature-rich SUV and even gets a virtual cockpit digital instrument cluster.

Some other features include a large 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartLink connectivity, dual-zone climate control, ambient lights, a panoramic sunroof and much more. The new 2020 Skoda Karoq SUV is powered by a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This turbo petrol motor churns out 150 PS of power at 5000-6000 RPM and 250 Nm of peak torque at 1500-3500 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 7-speed DSG. It was available in six colour options: Magic Black, Lava Blue, Brilliant Silver, Candy White, Magnetic Brown and Quartz Grey.
