The SUV department is literally growing in the Indian market. And by literally, I mean the compact SUV segment now comprises 10 options and soon the mid-size SUV department which housed only a few SUVs will now be a lot to take from. We have Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and soon the upcoming Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun will join the league. But wait, there's one more. That is the upcoming MG Astor SUV and mind you, this one will be loaded with features.
For those wondering what is MG Astor? Well, it is the ZS EV but now in conventional fuel types. Coming to the fuel types, let's discuss the mechanicals first. As per reports, MG will only be bringing in Astor in two petrol engine options - a humble 1.5L NA and a more powerful 1.3L turbo petrol.
This naturally aspirated 1.5L unit will be a four-cylinder churning out 118 hp with 150 Nm of peak torque whereas the 1.3L turbo petrol will be the most powerful of the lot. The latter generates as much as 161 bhp with 230 Nm of peak torque. The gearbox is not mentioned but we expect the turbo unit to get both a 6-speed manual and an optional CVT unit.

Now, coming to the spied model, well, it seems to be the top-spec variant with the diamond cut alloy wheels, huge panoramic sunroof and well, we believe it is the 1.3L turbo petrol as red brake calipers were spotted. Upfront, you get the mesh styled grille and what we can see is the angular foglights.
Of course, the silhouette of the Astor will be similar to the ZS EV and it will carry some top of the line features. A huge panoramic sunroof, LED headlights with DRLs and LED taillights, larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features like cruise control, wireless charging, connected car technology, a fully digital instrument cluster can also be expected with the same.
