A few months back Skoda teased the very first teaser of its upcoming compact SUV for the Indian market. The brand has now released another teaser of its upcoming small SUV. The upcoming Skoda compact SUV will be the first ever Skoda to be launched in this segment. The brand is making the SUV on an India-specific MQB-A0-IN platform. Upcoming Skoda Small SUV Teased
The upcoming small SUV will be based on the same platform as the Skoda Kushaq & Slavia. This new MQB-A0-IN platform has proven to be a successful platform for the brand. This new SUV will boast bold and muscular body shapes around the fenders to give it a good stance. The brand also claims that it will boast a hexagonal design pattern on the sides and the rear of the car. The SUV will also boast a high ground clearance to tackle every road with ease. Moreover, the design will be adorned by a signature LED design to keep up with the Skoda design language and an L-shaped LED tail lamp.
The brand claims that the SUV will be a tough rival to the sub-4 meter SUVs in the Indian market. The brand is expected to give signature Skoda design elements to the SUV similar to the bigger sibling Skoda Kushaq. On the features front, it is expected to get a touchscreen infotainment, digital instrument cluster, LED lighting, wireless charging, TPMS among other convenience and safety features.
The brand has already started the testing of the upcoming SUV and the test mule of the same has been spotted multiple times. The test mule has revealed some design elements of the SUV but as of now it is not sure they'll make it to the production spec version or not.
Upcoming Skoda Small SUV Powertrain Options
The upcoming small SUV from the Czech manufacturer is expected to come with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is expected to generate the same power and torque as the Kushaq. In the Kushaq this powertrain generates 115 bhp of power and 178 Nm of peak torque. Moreover, it is expected to be mated with a 6-speed manual and an AT gearbox.
Verdict
The upcoming Skoda small SUV will be the brand's first venture in the sub-4 metre segment. The brand claims that they'll maintain a big SUV sillouette while keeping the dimensions in check. The SUV is expected to boast some deisgn similarities with the Kushaq and expected to start at Rs 8-8.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Moreover, it will compete with the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, KIA Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO and other sub-4 metre SUVs.
