Switch Mobility To Take Forward The EV Plans Of Ashok Leyland

Electric mobility solutions are taking the astounded IC market to a spin since they are the future of the automotive industry. Hence, with this realization, the commercial vehicle industry has slowly started to lean towards the electrification of their precious fleet.

Electrification of fleets is the next big phase of the commercial industry in India as they have already commenced research and development related to electric mobility as you read. The companies have slowly started to shift to a newer and brighter phase of production and have been influential in the setting up of EV infrastructure.

As a part of the EV revolution around the globe, Ashok Leyland, the leader in the commercial vehicle segment, has plans to take forward e-mobility both for the Indian and global markets with the creation of two subsidiary companies.

Ashok Leyland has announced that its UK-based subsidiary -Switch Mobility, has been made to carry on the company's EV dreams. Switch Mobility Automotive will be catering to the needs of Ashok Leyland and its EV strategy according to a media release. On the other hand, OHM Global Mobility (another subsidiary) is a solution company that has been piloted in India to take on the task of rolling out mobility as a service.

Ashok Leyland believes that together with the two subsidiaries, the aim is to attain mobility solutions with zero tailpipe emission to cater to the rising demand and trend for EV buses and light commercial vehicles.

Gopal Mahadevan, Whole Time Director and Chief Financial Officer, Ashok Leyland, mentioned that the EV initiative of the company will be completely taken care by Switch Mobility- "It will have its arm in India. Also, in addition to the domestic market, it will cater to EV customers in the SAARC region. This is a super important market. The OHM Global Mobility will provide EVs almost like pay per kilometre for the customers. There is more to this, and we will unfurl it soon," he said.

Adding to his points, Vipin Sondhi, MD & CEO Ashok Leyland, mentioned that the company will be focusing on rolling out E-urban buses and E-LCVs as a part of the growing trend in India. "In terms of strategy, we will remain in CVs and our vision remains unchanged," he said.
