Tata Motors launched the Harrier BS6 at the 2020 Auto Expo and showcased several other cars too. And one such car which caught our eye was the much-awaited HB-2 concept, Tata HBX, a mini SUV. The SUV looks similar to that shown at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

When launched then Tata HBX will sit under Nexon and will be offered in a petrol engine only. The mini SUV is based on the ALFA architecture which is used by the Harrier, Gravitas and premium hatchback, Altroz.

Sharing more details on the design then the Tata HBX gets split headlight design which is inspired by the Harrier. The sharp agile grille boasts twin LED light set up for additional illumination on the road. It also packs skid plates at the front which makes the SUV looks sportier.

Moving onto the side profile then you see the gigantic wheel with square wheel arches which completes the look. You also notice a spare wheel mounted at the roof of the mini SUV. The taillights take inspiration as seen on the Nexon and get a raked rear windscreen. With the spare tyre mounted at the top, you also see jerry cans placed, if you want to conquer extreme roads. It also gets Maruti Swift like rear door handles.

The interiors feel fresh and you see a semi-digital instrument cluster. Please note, the facelifts of Nexon, Tiago and Tigor get a fully digital instrumental console. Tata might bring this feature on a later stage when it is launched in the market.

The mini SUV packs the same length as the Ignis and KUV100 but it is wider and taller than its competition. The SUV like stance makes the HBX (Hornbill) looks dominating. Also, it offers a class-leading space on the inside with proper support for passengers inside.

As far as powertrain is concerned then it may use the same 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine from the Tiago. It will be mated to an AMT gearbox. The power output for the same might be upgraded for those looking to use those extra horses. The pricing of the SUV is not confirmed but we expect it to rival close with the Maruti Ignis prices.
