Have you heard the news? Tata Motors becomes the first OEM to fit ESC technology on Medium and Heavy CV in India. Find out more about it here!
Leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, Tata Motors, introduces a new technology called the ESCsmart to its fleet of trucks. It is an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system that assists the vehicle to maintain stability. The ESCsmart equipment comes as an OE fitment for the Prima and Signa range of trucks, making them one of the most reliable and safer CVs in the current market.
In addition to the ESC, Tata also offers its range of trucks and buses with an Automatic Traction Control (ATC) system and Hill Start Aid (HSA) for added safety. The brand stated that the introduction of the aforementioned safety features is to improve the vehicles stability so as to reduce road accidents. The system has been developed in partnership with Wabco India to benefit its users. Also, with this technology, Tata anticipates reducing accident risks, overall vehicle uptime and repair costs.
Commenting on the initiative, Girish Wagh, Head of Commercial Vehicles at Tata Motors stated that, Tata Motors has always been upfront in terms of technological innovation, and we have constantly endeavoured to provide a unique experience to our discerning customers. He further added, Tata Motors is the first OEM in India to equip its medium and heavy commercial vehicles with Electronic stability control, a safety feature that is necessary by all standards. We are delighted to enter into a partnership with Wabco, to develop such technologically advanced products for our customers in India.
As for the system, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) has an integrated functionality with the Anti-lock Braking System or ABS. It helps the driver of the vehicle to perform sudden manoeuvres during an emergency or panic situation. Basically, ESC has a stabilizing function that prevents oversteering and understeering for the safety of the occupants in a vehicle. Thus, due to such abilities, this equipment has been made compulsory as per the Central Motors Vehicle Rules implemented by the Indian Government for vehicles that have more than 12 Tonne Gross Vehicle Weight.
Speaking of presenting the ESCsmart, Jacques Esculier, Wabco Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, said: Wabco is a global leader in innovating technologies that contribute to safer and more efficient road transportation of people and goods. Following the pioneering introduction of ABS for commercial vehicles in India, Wabco is extremely proud to showcase its ESCsmart technology, jointly with Tata Motors to play a key role in further helping to support the governments vision to reduce road accidents.
