- Tata announced TDGi engines at Auto Expo 2023

Tata has unleashed its prowess with the new range of EVs and CVs at the Auto Expo 2023. The Tata Sierra and Harrier EV electric SUV variants have been showcased alongside the Tata Curvv SUV coupe. Altroz Racer Edition and Punch iCNG models were also unveiled at the automobile event. But its not just cars and commercial vehicles that the company has announced. Tata Motors has also introduced two TGDi (Turbo Gasoline Direct Injection) engines for audiences demanding performance-oriented powertrain solutions. The latest advanced Turbo Gasoline Direct Injection (TGDi) engine has been released with 1.2L and 1.5l capacities. The 1.2L TGDi engine is a 3-cylinder turbocharged unit with 1198CC engine displacement. This new powerful 1.2L TGDi engine released by Tata is said to deliver a max power of around 125PS@5000 rpm. It is a Bahrat Stage 6, Phase 2-compliant engine that produced a peak torque of 225 NM @ 1700- 3500 rpm. It supports Gasoline and ethanol blended flex fuel.

Moving on to the more powerful variant of the newly launched Tata TGDi engine, i.e., 1.5L TGDi. This is a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that has a 1498 CC engine displacement. Speaking of the power figures, the 1.5L TGDi engine is capable of producing 170PS max power at 5000rpm. This is also a Bharat Stage 6, Phase 2-compliant engine that can churn out a peak torque of 28NM@ 2000- 3000 rpm. This engine also supports the same Gasoline and ethanol blended flex fuel.

Tata 1.2L, 1.5L TGDi Engine Other Key Highlights
The latest range of Tatas TGDi engines is designed using a lightweight Aluminium frame that improves the engine stiffness. The use of high-pressure Gasoline Direct Injection technology clubbed with improved combustion is said to offer better performance and fuel economy. Maintenance-free Valve train and Timing Chain technologies are also a part of the Tata TGDi engine design.

Expected Cars To Be Powered By Tata TGDi 1.2L, 1.5L Engines
Tata is likely to use the 1.2L TDGi engine in the upcoming Altroz, Nexon, and Punch. On the other hand, Tata could launch the Curvv, Harrier and Safari with the new TDGi 1.5L engine going forward.
