The 2020 Auto Expo is full of surprises and one such surprise comes from the house of Tata Motors. We got you the pricing and launch info of the Harrier Automatic a while back but the highlight at the hall is surely this - the Tata Sierra. This is in a concept stage as of now but knowing Tata Motors' and their offerings lately, this one could once again go on sale in India. Our fingers are crossed!
This is a full electric concept and why not - the future of cars in India will be electric and the company is already riding high on the success of the Nexon EV. The Sierra EV concept looks a lot like the Land Rover / Range Rover models sold in the market and this is because Tata owns this British marque and designers took in enough cues to make sure the Sierra EV looks jaw dropping good! When launched, it will compete in the compact SUV market and will lock horns with other SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.
Tata Motors currently does not offer 4x4 or AWD with the Harrier and we feel this will be reserved for the Sierra. This butch SUV will be used by adventure junkies and hence this option of opting for a 4x4 or AWD will please buyers. Like the good old model that was sold decades back, the Sierra concept also comes with sealed glass for the rear row passengers.
The Tata Sierra will be based on the Alpha platform, the same that is used by the Harrier and the Altroz. The interiors were not open to the media but its safe to assume that other modern offerings, the Sierra will come feature loaded and might have segment best practicality. Before we end, while this is a pure EV concept, Tata might look at offering a 1.2-litre turbo petrol with the Sierra to keep entry level costs in check.
