Taking another step towards attaining sustainable mobility, Tata Motors, the popular commercial vehicle manufacturer, has handed over 60 units of Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 AC buses to the Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL). For their maiden ride, the busses were flagged off from Sabarmati River Front Event Centre, Ahmedabad by Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister, Gujarat and Kiritkumar Parmar, Mayor of Ahmedabad.

The Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 bus is a 24-seater zero-emission vehicle that has been provided to the state government under the FAME II initiative by means of a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) with AJL. The recently supplied buses will run on Ahmedabads Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor. Other than handing over the bus, the CV manufacturer will be also seen setting up the charging infrastructure and the necessary support system to facilitate the smooth operation of the electric buses.
Powering the Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 AC electric bus is a full-electric drivetrain that churns out a maximum power of 328hp and a peak torque of 3000Nm. The interior offers an upmarket lighting setup and can even be tailored based on the requirements and regulations. Other than ensuring lesser fatigue to the driver through the clutch and gearshift-free driving, the bus also benefits from a regenerative braking system, new-generation telematics and a high-security Intelligent Transport System (ITS).

As per Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited, the recently inducted electric buses will ply on the developing areas of Ahmedabad and on the new airport route. Noteworthily, Tata Motors has been at the forefront of introducing environment-friendly electric vehicles in the passenger as well as commercial vehicle segments. Other than enjoying expertise in affordable electric drivetrains, the homegrown manufacturer even has an experience with battery-electric, hybrid, CNG, LNG and hydrogen fuel cell technology. In line with this, the company has bagged an order to provide 15 hydrogen fuel cell buses to the Indian Oil Corporation. Also, till date, Tata Motors has supplied more than 600 electric buses across multiple cities in India. These commercial vehicles boast of a cumulative mileage of 20 million kilometres
