Three-Row Nissan Magnite In Works, To Launch in India?

Nissan is working on a 7-seater version of the Magnite. It will not have any structural changes to its platform, so third-row will be compromised.

Nissan is developing a three-row SUV-based Magnite. They were initially planning to introduce a rebadged Triber or an entirely new product. However, due to huge development costs that come with a completely new product, the company has decided to stretch the Magnite.

This will help expand the appeal of the Magnite badge and this also gives Nissan the advantage to have a differentiated product with smaller investments. The Magnite sub-compact SUV is also based on the same platform as the Triber though.

Speaking of sub-compact SUVs, Kia also manufactures the 7-seater version of Sonet in India for the Indonesian market. Initially, the 3-row Magnite will be manufactured with this export potential in mind, as well. The dimensions of the 7-seater SUVs (Sonet and Magnite) remain the same with their original sub-compact SUVs. Therefore, the third row is very compact, ideal for children or smaller adults.

One of the key changes in the new 7-seater Magnite will be the second row. It is supposed to get a sliding bench for legroom alterations. The third row will also have a folding mechanism to accommodate luggage space. Aside from these two adjustments, the 7-seater Magnite will not feature many changes.

Mechanically, the Nissan Magnite sub-compact SUV will be powered by either 1.0-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine along with manual and automatic transmission options, in the South Asian market. In India, the Magnite is available with the naturally aspirated option only that is good for 72hp@6250 RPM and 96 Nm@3500 rpm.

Kia recently launched the three-row Carens, which scores pretty high on space especially for its third row. Now, whether Nissan also launches the 3-row Magnite, here in India, as its competitor, remains to be seen.
